Local Hens was a fun project for me because I love to cook. I especially love cooking with fresh, local, seasonal food and the goal of this site is to get more people to do the same.
I also enjoyed this project as it presented a few challenging tasks… geo-location search and user-generated content.

Geo Location Search
For Geo Location Search we used the Geo My WordPress plugin which indexes content by coordinates that are assigned to each post. It also provides a search interface which was highly customized to allow the user to really narrow down their search.
User-generated Content
Any farmer can sign up with the site and create a farm profile so we needed to provide registration form, and admin tools to manage their account in addition to the ability to create and edit farm profiles. The toolset also includes admin tools/workflow so that farms can be reviewed prior to the first publish.
